Welcome to Mrs. Frieda's page!
This is my first year at Oakland, and I am super excited to be working with the 6-8th grade orchestras! I have a lot of fun ideas and can't wait to get input from my orchestra students and their families.
As well as teaching at Oakland, I am working on my Masters degree in Music Education at Mizzou. Go Tigers! In May 2015 I graduated with a Master of Arts in Musicology from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and before that I got my Bachelors degree in viola performance from Mizzou. Through all of this school, I've been active as a private music teacher and performer. I've also worked with the Missouri String Project and will be working with the Missouri Symphony Society Conservatory this fall.
You might know my husband, Dustin Frieda, as another CPS music teacher. He was at Benton STEM for 2 years as music, but will be moving into a third grade classroom this fall. He also directed the CPS Middle School Honors Orchestra the past two years. We've been married for 4 years this summer, and are expecting a baby girl in November! We also have a dog named Henry and a cat named Szary, but they live in St. Louis right now.
Besides playing music, I love to read and watch movies, cooking, and spending time with my friends. I have too many favorite things to name, but you'll quickly learn I can't survive without coffee or chocolate!
I can't wait to get the 2015-2016 school year started and am so excited to meet you all. Please never hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or just want to chat!
